Kieren McCarthy, reporting for The Register: Google, it seems, is very, very interested in knowing where you are at all times. Users have reported battery life issues with the latest Android build, with many pointing the finger at Google Play — Google’s app store — and its persistent, almost obsessive need to check where you are. Amid complaints that Google Play is always switching on GPS, it appears Google has made it impossible to prevent the app store from tracking your whereabouts unless you completely kill off location tracking for all applications. You can try to deny Google Play access to your handheld’s location by opening the Settings app and digging through Apps -> Google Play Store -> Permissions, and flipping the switch for “location.” But you’ll be told you can’t just shut out Google Play services: you have to switch off location services for all apps if you want to block the store from knowing your whereabouts. It’s all or nothing, which isn’t particularly nice. This is because Google Play services pass on your location to installed apps via an API. The store also sends your whereabouts to Google to process. Google doesn’t want you to turn this off.
Righteous. Obama says, “Respect it!”
The NY Times made sure to instruct us today us of the important details of ‘Eid al-Adha, the feast of sacrifice’. Note the following quote from ‘Shamsi Ali, the imam of the Jamaica Muslim Center in Queens:
“There are no formal celebrations,” he explained. “There is ritual prayer, and then Muslims are visiting one another, slaughtering animals and distributing food to the poor.”
Again: ‘Muslims are visiting one another, slaughtering animals.’ That’s what ISIS was doing slaughtering descendants of apes and pigs, unbelievers.
BK writes me, “‘Slaughtering animals’, as if this were just another mainstream, wholesome American activity. Alexandra Levine, who compiled today’s update, didn’t indicate where and by whom this ‘slaughtering of animals’ occurs: inquiring or questioning this practice might indicate ‘disrespect’ of the culture. She was speaking to an Imam here in Queens, in NYC, in the US.
Is this ‘slaughtering’ occuring in backyards, garages, or basements, right here in this city? Are family members asked to ‘join in the fun’? Did Ms. Levine bother to ask this obvious question?
More creeping Sharia: ‘respect the culture’, regardless of how this is an affront to American values, such as the humane treatment of animals.
Striking the latest blow for pregnant and “chestfeeding” men, the NCAA has mounted its righteous high horse and is pulling seven championship events from North Carolina venues. The Tar Heel State, you see, has the hateful audacity to mandate that its citizens use the public bathrooms that correspond to their biological sex. The NCAA’s decision comes on the heels of the NBA pulling its all-star game from Charlotte, and in the midst of a rolling series of small-scale (though much-hyped) national-anthem protests at NFL football games. Before I turn to the larger issues, can we just take a moment to ponder
